Heveningham & Heveningham Hall

Heveningham Hall is to be found in rolling wooded countryside close to the B1117 road between Halesworth and Laxfield and close to Huntingfield. Built in 1752 for the Vanneck family after the original hall was pulled down, the present owners are in the process of restoring the parkland to the original plans drawn up by Capability Brown. In years to come, it will become an area of outstanding natural beauty and enhance the tranquillity which already bestows the area. The main lake which can be seen from the road in front of the hall (which is actually the back), has been recently cleared and expanded with further lakes being dug all the way downstream to the village of Walpole situated on the River Blyth.

It is possible to stroll across the grounds between the lakes and the hall via a public footpath, but unfortunately, Heveningham Hall is no longer open to the general public for viewing. However, courtesy of the estates current owners, functions are held within the ground for the general benefit of surrounding parishes for the enjoyment by all from time to time.

Heveningham village is situated about a mile from the Hall with the centre of the village populated by a handful of properties which add so much character to the area. Like several villages in this part of North East Suffolk, Heveningham typifies the peace and quiet of the area in charming gently rolling countryside.
